It was this past March that we celebrated Jack's fourth birthday, as the spring equinox rolled around. So many things coalesced to make it a beautiful, fun, happy day. Family showed up. The weather cooperated. And the most important factor in my opinion was how much love and care Chelsea poured into the decorations and preparations. The house looked so special; as soon as Jack woke up, he was happy.
And so were we. This boy changed our lives so much for the better, so deeply. He's such a loving, affectionate, sweet boy, who alternates between really deep contemplation (for a four-year-old) and absolute boyhood and craziness. It was fun--this day was so all about him that even Julia just followed him around smiling. Even if she couldn't put it into words, it was easy to see that she loved her big brother.
Thank you, God, for Jack. He's taught us how to love, in a lot of ways. Four years seems like nothing, yet at the same time it's impossible to imagine life without him.
